Psychoeducational Assessments for Children and Adults
When learning, attention, or academic performance doesn’t match effort or ability, a psychoeducational assessment provides clarity. These comprehensive evaluations identify how an individual learns, processes information, and performs academically, while pinpointing barriers that may be interfering with success.
Our assessments are grounded in current diagnostic standards outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5-TR) and are designed to answer specific referral questions with precision.
What a Psychoeducational Assessment Evaluates
Cognitive Functioning
Intellectual abilities, including verbal reasoning, nonverbal reasoning, working memory, and processing speed.
Academic Achievement
Reading (decoding and comprehension), written expression, spelling, and mathematics.
Attention and Executive Functioning
Focus, organization, task initiation, and self-monitoring.
Learning Disorders
Identification of disorders in Reading (dyslexia), Writing (dysgraphia), and Math (dyscalculia).
Emotional and Behavioural Factors
Screening for ADHD, anxiety, mood concerns, or other factors that may affect learning and performance.
For Children and Adolescents
- For students, an evaluation can:
- Identify specific learning disabilities
- Clarify giftedness or twice-exceptionality
- Support for IEP and academic accommodations
- Provide targeted recommendations for home and school
- Early identification leads to more effective intervention and improved academic confidence.
For College Students and Adults
- Learning challenges do not disappear in adulthood. Many adults seek assessment to:
- Understand lifelong academic or workplace struggles
- Obtain documentation for accommodations in college or professional settings
- Clarify strengths and weaknesses for career planning
- Differentiate learning disorders from attention or mood-related concerns
At the conclusion of the evaluation, you will receive:
- A comprehensive written report
- Clear diagnostic conclusions
- Specific recommendations for school and home
- Documentation suitable for schools, testing agencies, and employers
A psychoeducational assessment does more than provide a diagnosis - it offers a roadmap. By understanding how you or your child learns best, we can develop targeted strategies that promote confidence, independence, and long-term success.
**Testing for an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is not included in these assessments.
