It was difficult as a child to imagine all the successes that I had achieved up until this point in my life, however, I decided at a young age to go all into the life that I wanted so badly. I was required to learn everything on my own for half of my life and constantly had so many failures that sometimes I thought, was it even worth living? Well, I can say that I wouldn’t trade the past back. I would do it all over again with minor adjustments along the way.
I was diagnosed with a learning disability when I was 5 years old, months before I started junior kindergarten. My parents were so worried about my development after my speech was deemed below the standard that was needed. I had to complete many tests before I understood my diagnosis towards my grade 7 year. In addition to getting the help I needed, I was also transferred multiple times to 2 different schools from my initial school, all in 4 years. The most stressful part of my life was transitioning to new environments, new friends, and even falling behind in class while I tried to catch up with the learning curve. At the same time, I had wonderful special education teachers who had committed their time to me and saw my potential. I will never forget that.
Leading to grade 8, I chose to stop all special education classes and went all in on staying in my home classroom for the very first time in my life. I did this to challenge myself in every part of my life. It was extremely scary, but I had to do it. A big part of this decision was knowing and understanding that I could be the one to determine the trajectory of my life when I was ready. I felt that I could take on more and grow at an exponential rate! I chose to continue growing, and many blessings came along. High school was the mid-peak of my growth and potential. In the tenth grade, I became a student-athlete which was a big success. I was also a great student on the path to attending university. I was so determined to put my mind to anything I wanted to, and I had achieved Honour Roll 3 years in a row, which was such an accomplishment.
Then, I moved into university at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) in the field of Public Health and safety in September 2009. Attending university while navigating more challenges in life, as well as figuring out my direction at 18 years old was quite the experience! I was working two full-time jobs (I still am currently, while running my business) to pay my tuition and was just doing my best to pass my classes to get my degree in six years. I used every opportunity to get more involved in the extracurricular space. From being a student group executive to running a student union representative and even being one. I even ran my own student group before my graduating year in October 2015.
Fast forward to now, I found the direction of life I desire to go for. I made drastic adjustments to enter the entrepreneurial space, aiming to work full-time in the near future. Being an author, speaker, coach, consultant, and role model became my fuel to accomplish more. I am ready to give back to the communities that have served me and to help individuals understand their capabilities at a much younger age.
