Knowledge, Strategies & Support for Every Step of the Journey

Parenting a child with a learning disability (LD) can bring unique questions, challenges and rewards. Understanding how your child learns, recognizing their strengths, and finding the right strategies and support can make a meaningful difference in their confidence, growth and success.

The Learning Disabilities Association of York-Simcoe is pleased to offer our Parent Education Series.  A collection of informative and practical seminars designed to support parents and caregivers as they navigate the many aspects of raising and supporting children with learning disabilities.

Each session will explore relevant topics, provide practical tools and strategies, and offer opportunities to build knowledge, confidence and understanding. From supporting learning and emotional well-being to developing routines, managing transitions and advocating for your child, our goal is to help families feel informed, empowered and supported.

Whether you are just beginning to understand your child's learning needs or have been navigating this journey for years, these sessions are designed to offer valuable information and guidance you can put into practice at home and beyond.

Because when parents are supported with knowledge and practical tools, children are better equipped to reach their full potential.

Learn. Connect. Empower.

Our seminars are offered free of charge to make information and support accessible to all families. Donations are always welcome and help us continue providing these valuable programs to our community.

What the Seminar is about:

Reset, Refocus & Recharge!

Navigating Holiday Transitions, Managing Distractions and Building Routines for a Successful New Year

The holiday season can be an exciting time, but changes in daily routines, busy schedules, family activities and increased distractions can also present challenges for students with learning disabilities (LDs).

As the school year pauses for the holidays, students may find it difficult to maintain structure, stay organized, manage their time and prepare for the transition back to school.

Join us for Reset, Refocus & Recharge!, an informative and practical presentation designed to help students with learning disabilities navigate holiday transitions and prepare for a positive and successful start to the New Year.

During this session, we will explore practical strategies and tools to help students:

  • Manage Changes in Routine: Understand why changes in schedules can be challenging and learn ways to maintain a sense of structure during the holidays.
  • Stay Focused and Manage Distractions: Discover techniques to manage distractions, improve concentration and balance holiday activities with personal responsibilities.
  • Build Organization and Time-Management Skills: Learn simple ways to plan ahead, manage tasks and stay on top of responsibilities.
  • Prepare for the Return to School: Develop strategies to ease back into school routines, rebuild productive habits and reduce the stress of transitioning from holiday time to classroom expectations.
  • Set Goals and Start Fresh: Explore realistic goal-setting, positive habits and ways to build confidence, motivation and independence in the New Year.

Whether it is maintaining a routine, managing competing demands or getting back into the school mindset, students will gain practical ideas they can put into action.

A new year is an opportunity for a fresh start! With the right strategies, encouragement and preparation, students can feel more confident, organized and ready to take on new challenges.

Let's make this holiday transition a positive step toward a successful year ahead!
